Event to Stop Peter Bjorn and John @ SXSW

Okay, now we get down to the how. If blogs can start an indie rock band, there is no reason why we cannot use the same methods to stop one. Especially one that needs to be stopped as much as Peter Bjorn and John. (If you doubt this, see my earlier post.) So those of you who agree with me, get out there and blog about this.

Also, we are going to have a rally at SXSW for those of you who will be there. According to Oh My Rockness, Peter Bjorn and John's last scheduled show in Austin is on Friday at 3 p.m., at a record store* at 6th and Lamar. Our rally will be at the same time, outside the store. The details:

STOP PETER BJORN AND JOHN
Friday, March 16th, 3 p.m.
6th & Lamar, Austin (outside record store where band is playing)
(Google Map link)

Show up by 2:45, and make sure you have something that indicates you're anti Peter Bjorn and John, so we can all find each other. What I plan to do is write "PBJ" on a piece of duct tape and put it over my mouth. (The idea is that trying to make PBJ into a breakout band is essentially silencing those of us who hate the band.)

Also, you might also wear a shirt or a button for a band that you think is actually good, so that anyone who sees the protest will get ideas about better bands that they might pay attention to instead.

If you're sure that you can make it, email me so I can get a rough minimum headcount.

* note: I am not naming the record store just b/c I don't want anyone to think that this is some sort of stunt for the store.

UPDATED: OK, so I've now heard from at least 30-40 of you that you'll be there. Awesome. Lots of people seem to like the duct tape idea, so if you find me at the event, I'll have a roll of tape and a Sharpie. Or bring your own.

One thing: is there a danger that we wont be able to find each other? if there are a bunch of people lining up to get into the show

That's a good point jj -- when I get there I'm gonna scope out the spot -- if we need to modify plans I'll make another post.

I hope you're getting paid a lot of money to do this; you're bringing the blog 'in the box.' Who can we trust? But...the hype that you and your colleagues are generating by creating this anti-enthusiast movement is entertaining. I'd fly to Austin just to see if anyone actually got suckered into hating a band merely by reading that PBJ is "not a significant band." The exposure that the band and the video are getting must be phenomenal, though. PS--loved the bit about how PBJ were EVERYWHERE at the end of 2006, et al.

This is really cool of you, giving them even more hype, so they can get even bigger. Yay.

Damn I think this is the lamest idea I've ever heard of! Have you even heard the whole album? Sure they may not be changing the face of indie rock as we know it but it's fun and probably 10 times better than anything an obnoxious hipster douchebag like yourself could come up with. I bet anyone if you start something as ridiculous as an "Anti PB&J campaign" at SXSW you'll have more than a few doors slammed in your face and more than a few beers pored over your head. What a bunch of idiots you all are...

that last post is pretty funny. good luck with the campaign, but P,B and J's music is much better than so much drivel out there.

You are completely retarded!!! You say you hate Peter, Bjorn and John yet you are devoting your Friday afternoon duing SXSW and all the effort to go down to their show to "stop" them, when really all you will be doing is making an ass out of yourself! Not to mention, you have an ENTIRE blog devoted to them...how fucking stupid can you get? Do you think they will give the slightest shit about you or anyone else that doesn't enjoy the music?

If you don't like it - don't listen to it...

MARKETING FOR THE BAND. FIGURE IT OUT, PEOPLE. VIRAL FUCKING MARKETING.

Anonymous said...

well, they are still probably better than your band, and half of the other bands you will see.

sorry, the truth is sad and awful, isn't it? ;)

Waterloo Records - they deserve some publicity. A really good record store. You all should buy some cds when you are done protesting. They have Writer's Block for a really good price. You could probably get some other Swedish pop eh. I'm From Barcelona or something like that.

You guys are a bunch a indie-egotistical bitches... what a bunch of followers! Here's my idea... use the whole roll of duct tape and tape yourself to a pole and let people stab you to death... (with butter knifes... with a hint PB&J still on it). I dont like Peter, Bjorn and John but i have better things to do... you bunch of losers!

You guys did it wrong. I embarrassed the shit out of Kid Rock years ago before he made it big. It was in Detroit and me and my friends knew he was lip syncing. SO we brought a couple of remotes for DAT recorders, a universal remote, and standard remotes from the dollar store. We divided the remotes amongst 9 of us and eventually stopped the show by angling them every which way!!

IT WORKED. He did not know what to do! He kicked the mic, said FUCK THIS a few times and stumbled off stage cursing. It was great!! Try it.
